Every player visible. Every frame.
Chromaturf is an intelligent video enhancement system that corrects harsh pitch shadows during live football broadcasts — delivering consistently clear, natural footage in real time.

Visible artefacts
Half the pitch shouldn’t disappear in shadow
When sunlight hits a stadium at a low angle, one half of the pitch is flooded with light while the other falls into deep shadow. Standard cameras can’t expose for both — leaving viewers squinting at dark zones or blown-out highlights. Players become silhouettes. Passes vanish. The ball disappears.
Standard broadcast — harsh shadow split
Balanced, natural visibility across the full pitch
Intelligent per-frame correction
Built from the ground up for live broadcast constraints — no manual intervention, no delay.
Adaptive Contrast
Localised tone mapping that lifts shadows and restrains highlights independently across regions — no global curves, no clipping.
Region-of-Interest Detection
Automatically identifies the pitch surface, player clusters, and the ball — applying correction where it matters most for the viewer.
Temporal Smoothing
Frame-to-frame consistency prevents flickering or pulsing as clouds pass and shadows shift — the correction is invisible to the viewer.
Colour Normalisation
Ensures the sunlit grass and shadowed grass render as the same shade of green — removing the colour temperature split that plagues mixed-light matches.
Sub-Frame Latency
Processes at under 8ms per frame — comfortably within the broadcast pipeline window, with no perceptible delay for live viewers.
Hardware Agnostic
Integrates into existing OB van workflows via SDI/ST 2110 — no proprietary cameras or lenses required. Drop it into the signal chain.
How Chromaturf works
Ingest
Live camera feed enters the Chromaturf processing unit via SDI or IP.
Analyse
Each frame is segmented — pitch regions, shadow boundaries, players, and ball are identified.
Correct
Localised contrast and colour corrections are applied per region with temporal consistency.
Output
Enhanced frame is passed downstream — fully corrected in under 8ms, indistinguishable from a naturally lit pitch.
